A Warm Welcome to the Library

Operation Warm is teaming up with libraries, community partners, foundations and corporations across the country to give a brand new coat and new books to each child who participates. This engaging, innovative program will provide an opportunity to introduce kids and families living in need to all that your library branch offers beyond books.

Read about our program in American Libraries Magazine

We are speaking about our program at the PLA conference on February 27! We will share program origins, the results of a two-year pilot program at 34 sites, lessons learned, and a toolkit for new implementations.

A Warm Welcome to the Library Program Overview

Merging Community Need with Literacy
“This year’s Operation Warm events truly provided 'A Warm Welcome to the Library.' The flow of the event allowed families to take advantage of library resources. We distributed so many flyers for upcoming events that we ran out at nearly every event!”
-Alexa Hamilton, Special Projects Librarian, Chicago Public Library
“Our circulation desk had a line at the end of January. In the summer, we always have a line. But in January, the staff was like, 'This is awesome.'…You should've seen their faces. Just the warmth and confidence the children showed through getting the gift of a winter coat was just really cool.”
-Karen Mahar, Library Director, Ocean City NJ
