Giving Tuesday FAQs
For the third consecutive year, we are donating our #GivingTuesday efforts to you, the Firefighters of Operation Warm.
From November 20th – 28th, online donations from individual donors will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. The goal of this campaign is to bring new donors into your program. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW ON HOW TO QUALIFY FOR A MATCHING DONATION.
What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. It is nonprofits’ answer to Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.
why should my local get involved?
#GivingTuesday has turned into a worldwide phenomenon, with over $150 million generated in 2016 alone. Over the last two years, Operation Warm’s #GivingTuesday campaign has raised over $100,000.
How will my donation be matched?
Anonymous funders have stepped up to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. Remember, the goal of this campaign is to encourage new donors or past donors to give. We have a limited amount of funds for matching this year. To qualify, you must:
- Be an individual donor outside of your Local (Local’s fundraising dollars will NOT be matched)
- Donate on the #GivingTuesday Operation Warm page or your Local’s fundraising page
- Individual donations up to $500 will be matched
Can I send you our fundraising check to be matched?
No. Because of our limited match funding, only individual donors outside of your Local will qualify for matching donations. Remember, this campaign is meant to encourage new or past donors to give to your program.
When will I receive my matching donations?
Matching funds will be added to your account when you submit an order for coats prior to March 1st, 2018. Matching donations will only be granted to Locals who use funds to provide coats to kids this season.
What if I already submitted by coat order for this year?
There are nearly 14 million children living in poverty across the country. Each year, Operation Warm and the firefighters are only able to help roughly 2% of these children receive coats. There are always more kids in your community that could use your help this winter. Please contact Laura if you need help finding children in need.
how do i get my supporters to participate?
Email and social media are the most effective ways to fundraise for #GivingTuesday. When the campaign launches on November 20th, Operation Warm will be sending out emails and social media until #GivingTuesday, November 28th. We encourage you to share our posts or emails with your supporters. Don’t forget to include a link to your Local’s fundraising page.
