Workplace Campaigns are Fun, Easy, and Warm-Hearted
Corporations and small businesses are some of Operation Warm’s biggest supporters. This past holiday season, companies large and small helped put new winter coats on children in need with workplace fundraising campaigns. In doing so, these compassionate people embraced the true spirit of giving while helping Operation Warm expand our reach! Learn about a few stories of offices that came together to give back:
Filling up empty hangers – Cash Connect, a division of WSFS Bank in Newark, Delaware, has run an annual Operation Warm campaign since 2008 – each year more successful than the last. This year, the office of about 60 employees raised $930 through their holiday “coat drive.” Campaign chair Susan Graves tells us she hangs a chart in the break room with pictures of empty coat hangers, and for every donation toward one new coat, she places a picture of a coat on one of the hangers. Personalized coats represent each donor by their favorite sports team, military service, or Hello Kitty, and each donation earns a Jeans Day and Casual Friday. Susan says it’s an honor to support Operation Warm, because it not only keeps kids warm, but keeps their dignity intact with a coat that fits and is stylish. A hospital’s gift of warmth – Paoli Hospital, a member of Pennsylvania’s Main Line Health, created a campaign called “The Gift of Warmth,” that encourages staff, physicians, and volunteers to sponsor one or more coats for local children. In only the second year of their campaign, they raised $1,660! Brad Zerr, Community Service Director, made it easy to contribute with a flyer explaining Operation Warm’s mission, and a form at the bottom to pledge a contribution. Operation Warm staff visited the hospital to present about our program, and gave each donor a zipper pull as a token of our thanks. We extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Paoli Hospital.
A goal met and rewarded with a match – LaFrance Corp of Concordville, PA, which specializes in corporate product branding and trim accents, has supported Operation Warm since 2007. This year, they took advantage of Operation Warm’s new service, custom-branded online fundraising pages. Peter Flamini, Manager of Finance & Facilities, set an ambitious goal for LaFrance employees to donate enough for 130 coats, and pledged a corporate match if this target was met. Happily, they met their goal, raising a total of $5,200 for 260 coats! More than half of the employee gifts were made through the online fundraising page. Thank you, LaFrance, for your generous spirit of giving.
Love isn’t limited to those you know – Perhaps the most impressive workplace campaign was held by National Oilwell Varco (NOV), a worldwide leader in providing oilfield service and equipment. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, NOV raised an incredible $12,200 for Operation Warm in their very first year! NOV set up a customized fundraising page and publicized its fall coat drive through their employee newsletter. Jason Bozic, Community Relations Manager, tells us NOV chose Operation Warm for their fall drive because of the simplicity of allowing anyone in the US to make a donation to children that are in need. More than 250 employees contributed to the fundraiser, and several shared why they wanted to give a child a coat: “New clothes help kids look good and feel good,” said Laurie from Houston. Dixon from Rush Valley, Utah said, “Love isn’t limited to only those you know.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. We’re so grateful to NOV for a phenomenally successful campaign, and keeping more than 600 children warm this winter.
