Operation Warm and The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation

Operation Warm is proud to recognize the outstanding work of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, a supporting organization since 2010. To date, our partnership with The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has allowed Operation Warm to give 10,000 students and 1,500 homeless children the gift of warmth, confidence and hope through brand new winter coats.

The Weinberg Foundation is one of the largest private charitable foundations in the United States. Beginning in 2019, the Foundation will provide approximately $125 million in annual grants to nonprofits that provide direct services to low-income and vulnerable individuals and families, primarily in the United States and Israel. Grants are focused on meeting basic needs and enabling an individual to live as independently as possible. Within that focus, emphasis is placed on serving older adults and the Jewish community.Weinberg Spotlight Quote

In 2013, Operation Warm joined with Baltimore firefighters and fire officers, as well as corporate and local foundations, to increase impact. The Baltimore community has been the beneficiary of this collaborative effort, which includes coat distributions at schools that are part of the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project (https://www.baltimorelibraryproject.org/). The Baltimore Library Project, now involving more than 40 partners, works with Baltimore City Public schools to design, build, equip, and staff new or renovated libraries in selected schools where existing public funds can be leveraged.

“In addition to promoting educational achievement, the Weinberg Foundation and its Library Project partners have always intended these spaces to serve as resource centers and connecting points for the entire community,” said Rachel Duden, Program Officer, Education, US. “We are pleased that Operation Warm works through our Library Project schools to provide children with new winter coats, further affirming that each student deserves the very best.”

2018 marks another exciting year of programming! With the support of the Weinberg Foundation, Operation Warm will continue to serve schools in the Baltimore area and support homeless shelters. We will also be launching a new library program in four locations to introduce families to additional resources in their local neighborhoods.

“The Weinberg Foundation is a truly collaborative funder that has helped Operation Warm make a significant impact on the well-being of children in Baltimore public schools by helping to ensure that they are able to get to school on the coldest winter days!”  – Heather Connolly, Vice President, Development and Programs at Operation Warm.
