For Immediate Release
New Castle County Uniformed Firefighters, IAFF Local 4417, Provides New Coats to Local School Children Launching the Firefighters Coats for Kids Foundation in Delaware
New Castle, DE – On Friday November 16th, New Castle County Uniformed Firefighters, IAFF Local 4417, will provide seventy brand-new winter coats to local school children in partnership with Firefighters Coats for Kids Foundation, a division of Operation Warm, the largest non-profit distributer of new coats in the U.S. Working together, New Castle County Firefighters and William B. Keene Elementary identified those students who could most benefit from a new coat. Recognizing the need in this community, the New Castle County Uniformed Firefighters are delighted to give the gift of warmth and excitement to these children who otherwise may not have a coat this winter.
“We are so excited to be the first firefighters in Delaware to get involved with the Firefighters Coats for Kids Foundation” stated, Drew Outten, IAFF Local 4417 Union President. “We recognize the difference this can make and look forward to arriving on our antique fire truck, bringing coats and smiles to the children.” Firefighters, teachers and representatives from Operation Warm will give coats directly to students at 9:45AM, giving them great memories with their favorite firefighting heroes.
“This is a program that strengthens communities and the overall well-being of children” stated, Carey Palmquist, Executive Director of Operation Warm. “A new coat allows families to stretch limited financial resources to other basic necessities, such as food and shelter.” The seventy children of William B. Keene Elementary will be receiving their new coats just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday, which New Castle County Uniformed Firefighters hope will bring families a bit of added joy.
