Meaningful New Year Resolution Ideas
What New Year resolution ideas are the best? How about one that can make the world a better place? Did you know practicing kindness and compassion for others is also being kind to yourself? It could be the key to improve your wellness.
Generous New Year Resolution Ideas that Last
A number of studies have shown that generosity, doing good things for others, can reduce stress, improve your physical and mental health, and increase your lifespan. Psychologist Liz Dunn spoke with Scientific American about how cortisol levels can be lower in people who practice generosity. High cortisol levels have been linked to disease and long-term “wear and tear” on the body.
The International Journal of Behavior Medicine cites several studies that cover everything from evolutionary biology to positive psychology to conclude, “…a strong correlation exists between the well-being, happiness, health, and longevity of people who are emotionally and behaviorally compassionate…”
New Year Resolution Ideas Made Extra with Kindness
What if you could combine those standard new year resolution ideas that we all have, such as to eat healthier or get in shape and combine them with kindness ideas? You’ll get double the health benefit while helping others!
Almost any resolution can be turned into an opportunity for good. For example, when you plan your own healthy meals, you could double your recipe and give a meal to a neighbor in need. You could pick up extra fresh produce during your shopping trip and donate it to a shelter.
The goal to get in shape works, too. Offer to give a ride to the gym or fit in a walk with someone who needs a listening ear or an opportunity to get out for a bit. You could also purchase your gear from a company that gives back to help a cause you love.
