HERO’S HAUL Fire Truck Pull to Benefit Milwaukee Firefighters for Operation Warm
By Lauren Holloway, Public Relations/Media Coordinator at Operation Warm
On Saturday, Sept. 30, Milwaukee Firefighters, Local 215, will be participating in the second annual HERO’S HAUL Fire Truck Pull, a team strength competition in which participants work together to pull a full-sized fire truck. The event, which will be held at Milwaukee Brewing Company, will help provide winter jackets for children in need through the nonprofit Operation Warm.
During HERO’S HAUL Fire Truck Pull, participants from the community will compete in groups of 10 to pull a fire truck 75 grueling feet, while racing up against the clock.
This unique and exciting event will bring out your competitive side, test your strength and benefit children in need in Milwaukee, as every dollar raised goes towards providing a child with a jacket.
According to Julie D’Esposito, Operation Warm’s Partner Support & Events Coordinator, Milwaukee Firefighters have been major supporters of Operation Warm throughout the years and are constantly seeking innovative ways to fundraise. In the last four years, Milwaukee Firefighters have provided more than 17,000 brand-new winter coats to children in need throughout the city.
“The fire truck pull was created last year after bringing in several firefighters for a focus group brainstorm,” D’Esposito says. “One of the Milwaukee firefighters came up with the idea for a fire truck pull and we ran with it.”
The inaugural event allowed various community groups to come together for one specific cause, including teams of firefighters, police officers, CrossFit athletes, corporate groups, families and more.
“Anyone can participate, it’s all about teamwork and achieving a goal…the same philosophy it takes to make a difference in a community. An individual may not be able to move a firetruck but a team of people could move it with ease,” John Litchford, Deputy Chief at Milwaukee Fire Department, says.
According to Litchford, 10 teams participated last year, putting up impressive times, with huge support from the crowd. Litchford aims to make this year’s event bigger and better.
“This year’s event will have more teams, more spectators, more family events, more food choices and greater competition. As a competitor last year and a spectator this year I look forward to this year’s event and feel that it will be a great event that will raise money for a great cause; Operation Warm.”
Community members are encouraged to attend, cheer on their favorite teams and donate to help support Firefighters for Operation Warm. Food, beer, music and raffles will be present during the event.
