EQT Grant Profile: Celebrating 10 Years of Success
For the past ten years, Operation Warm has benefited from the generous support of and partnership with the EQT Foundation, the philanthropic division of EQT Corporation, a natural gas company headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.
The EQT Foundation was established in 2003 as a dedicated resource for financial, in-kind and volunteer support to communities where the company operates and where its employees live and work. To date, EQT Foundation has awarded nearly $50 million to nonprofits in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia. The Foundation is committed to supporting education for children; encouraging the development of safe, healthy, diverse neighborhoods; preserving local natural resources; and sponsoring local programs that promote a greater appreciation for the arts.
“We thoroughly enjoy our long-standing partnership with Operation Warm,” said Ellen Rossi, EQT Foundation Manager. “The mission is clear – provide warmth and confidence to children who need it most through the gift of a new winter coat. With cold winters throughout our core operational area, we know the effect a new coat can have on children, as well as their family.”
“In addition, our employees have often remarked that volunteering at an Operation Warm coat distribution is one of their favorite days of the year,” Rossi added.
In 2017 alone, a total of 1,250 children in Southwestern Pennsylvania received a gift of warmth thanks to the EQT Foundation grant. As a special treat for the children, 200 coats were delivered by Washington Park Firefighters, who supplemented a portion of the grant with additional grassroots fundraising. EQT employee volunteers helped distribute the coats at the October event at Washington Park Elementary. “It was wonderful to see the children’s faces light up when they got their new coats,” said Jeanette Casciato of Allegheny Intermediate Unit #3, another recipient location. “You could see the pride in their faces.”
“EQT is one of our largest supporters,” says Heather Connolly, VP of Development & Community Partners at Operation Warm. “Without EQT we would not be able to make as big of an impact in the Pittsburgh area and we always look forward to working with them.”
