#GivingTuesday: Operation Warm Teams with Firefighters
At Operation Warm, our unwavering mission since launching in 1998, is to provide brand-new coats to children in need across North America. We believe that a new coat is more than an article of clothing – besides providing warmth through the long winter, new coats help to positively impact children’s self-esteem, their school attendance, and overall health and well-being.
An important milestone in our work came in 2012, when we were honored to begin a partnership with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), a group whose members are deeply committed to keeping our communities safe. Our firefighters go above and beyond the frequent sacrifices and risks of their profession to help children in their communities.
Our firefighter partners often sacrifice days off, weekends, and time away from home to help fundraise for Operation Warm projects in their own neighborhoods. We’re proud to report that since this partnership began, Firefighters for Operation Warm has provided nearly a quarter million brand-new coats to kids in need across the United States.
We’re excited that #GivingTuesday has grown to such an incredible movement of global giving, when millions come together to champion the causes they believe in. From its small grassroots beginning, #GivingTuesday – always the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving – now benefits more than 35,000 deserving organizations. For Operation Warm, this day of giving has become a vital 24 hours in our annual fundraising efforts. During last year’s Giving Tuesday alone, donations to Operation Warm funded the purchase of more than 1,700 new coats!
And we’re very excited that, for the third consecutive year, we are celebrating #GivingTuesday by highlighting Firefighters of Operation Warm and allocating funds donated on the day to this wonderful program. All money raised will go directly to support the hundreds of firefighters and firehouses in the partnership program, allowing them to help local children with brand-new winter coats … just in time for the coldest months of the year!
This #GivingTuesday, Nov. 28th, we ask you to please show your support by giving to Firefighters for Operation Warm.
This year, our firefighters have set the very ambitious goal of raising $100,000, which would help to provide an extra 3,000 new, colorful winter coats to kids in need this holiday season.
Want to help a specific program/community? Include the name of the firefighter local union or location of the firehouse you support on the donation page.
Thank you so much for your support! And have a very happy #GivingTuesday!
