Fire Fighters Raise Over $1,000,000 for Kids

SHARE:

Local Fire Fighters reached a national milestone in 2018, when they successfully raised more than one million dollars for children in need.

Last year, 127 dedicated fire departments participated in the Fire Fighters for Operation Warm program. These fire fighters provided brand new winter coats to nearly 45,000 children living in need in the communities they serve. With every coat, fire fighters deliver a gift of warmth, a boost in confidence and a sense of hope to children. The fire fighters find the children who are most in need and provide each of them with a colorful brand new Operation Warm coat, often the first new coat they have ever received.

Since partnering with Operation Warm in 2012, fire fighters have provided the gift of warm, brand new coats to more than 350,000 children nationwide!

Together, Operation Warm and our fire fighter partners are rewriting the script of child poverty in America, starting with their local communities, both large and small.

Milwaukee Fire Fighters Warm Up Winter

Milwaukee Fire Fighters continue to grow their coats for kids program each year. In 2018, they provided more than 8,500 brand new coats to children through their “Warm Up Winter” fundraising campaign.

“I’ve seen what Warm Up Winter does, giving a child a new coat and seeing the smile that you put on their face, and seeing the impact,” says Fire Fighter Kevin Monaghan. “They feel good about themselves, they feel a part of the community, just like any other kid, who might come from a better home or a better neighborhood. They have their new coat, so when they are walking in the school or walking out of school—wherever they are, they feel good about themselves.”

Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics

The Fairfax Country Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics served more than 4,000 children in 2018. Through a combination of traditional and innovative fundraising and events, the fire fighters are able to engage the community and serve thousands of local children each year. The Fairfax County Fire Fighters partner with community-focused organizations to ensure the coat giving events are a memorable experience for each child they serve. For example, at one event in addition to a new coat, children also received two books and made some new friends – the Caring Angel therapy dogs.

“I think the strength of this program is the Fairfax Fire Fighters ability to engage all facets of the community,” says Heather Connolly, Vice President of Development and Programs at Operation Warm. “The Fairfax community comes together with their fire fighters to provide financial support and volunteers.”

Since 1998, Operation Warm has inspired hope and empowered communities by manufacturing and distributing brand new winter coats to over 3 million children in need throughout the US. Without partners like fire fighters, our mission would not be possible.

We would like to say THANK YOU to all of the Fire Fighters for Operation Warm and their supporters. By providing brand new winter coats to 350,000 children living in need in the communities they serve, these brave men and women have helped Operation Warm get much closer to our goal of insuring that every child feel warm and valued.

Join hundreds of fire departments across the country to give brand new coats to children in the communities you protect.
