What We Do

In 2002, Operation Warm was founded to counter one of the most unfathomable hardships of childhood poverty; the lack of adequate winter clothing.  By necessity, families struggling to survive prioritize food, heat, and rent above winter clothing resulting in frequent absenteeism from school.  This translates not only to forgone learning but also missed opportunities for socialization, play, and balanced nutrition provided through the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program. School attendance is as important as warmth because through education, upcoming generations will become productive, hopeful, and enterprising.

Kids with Coats are Happy KidsOperation Warm’s mission is most effectively executed in collaboration with organizations serving impoverished children and their families.  The provision of brand new winter coats affords unparalleled opportunity to leverage critical outcomes important to transitioning families to financial independence.

Through community-based partnerships Operation Warm provides families with brand new winter coats for their children while other organizations leverage our coats to deliver social work, after school programs, educational assistance programs, life skills training, healthcare offerings, etc.  Alone we cannot effectively conquer the overwhelming need to assist children in poverty.

Collaboration with the like-minded enables expansion of our mission – to deliver warmth & happiness to children in need.  In 49 states and the District of Columbia, we work locally with agencies serving youth, corporate and foundation donors, community and faith based service organizations and corporations looking to give back.

Thanks to in-kind support from manufacturing and transportation partners, we are able to efficiently deliver brand new warm and stylish coats at cost to over 300,000 children annually.

  • Operation Warm addresses an immediate and critical need for warm coats.
  • Our coats are leveraged to go beyond warmth and strengthen relationships between our partners and their communities by facilitating positive outcomes that aid in the breakdown of dependence on long-term assistance.
  • Through our work, Operation Warm advocates for awareness of the impact of poverty on families and communities, and demonstrates how even one person can make a positive difference in the life of a child.
