National Capital Area Challenge

Operation Warm teams with nonprofit Coats For Kids Foundation to reach children in the National Capital Area. There are over 100,000 people living in poverty in the District of Columbia alone, enough to fill RFK stadium twice. Of those, one third would be children.

Please help us reach more than 5,000 children in need in Fairfax County, Alexandria City, and Arlington County, VA; Washington D.C.; and Prince George’s County, MD. Facing about 5 months of cold winter months with, on average, 71 days of temperatures below freezing, children in the National Capital Area would greatly benefit from a warm, winter coat. Operation Warm is distinguished by our commitment to providing only new winter coats. We believe that by giving a child a new winter coat, we are demonstrating to that child that she/he is not only valuable, but also worthy of value.

We greatly value our community partners, that are supporting  our expanding programs to serve local children. Thanks to the following organizations, children will receive the gift of a new winter coat

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, served over 2,000 children.

Fairfax County Public Schools and Homeless Office provided coats to nearly 1,000 children in need.

NEW in 2011, Prince George’s County Fire/EMS, Prince George County Public Schools and Homeless Program and students from the University of Maryland provided new coats to the homeless and most vulnerable children in PG County.

Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, provided 2,000 coats to children in need.

Alexandria City Sheriff's Office, NEW in 2011, serving families of inmates.
