Coats for Kids Foundation and Operation Warm: United to Bring More Warmth to Children in Need
Several years ago, Operation Warm joined forces with longtime partner Coats for Kids Foundation of Arlington, VA to reach even more children in need of warm winter coats.
Coats for Kids Foundation, established in Alexandria, VA in 2004, has been a long term partner of Operation Warm. Founded on similar principles, it was both logical and efficient to unite in our goal to serve impoverished children. Operation Warm serves children across the country, while Coats for Kids Foundation was focused on the Greater Washington D.C Metro area.
After distributing more than 38,000 new winter coats over eight years, Coats for Kids Foundation founders Paul and Cheryl Darby retired at the end of 2011. They reached out to Operation Warm so the Darby legacy could continue. Their profound impact on children in the Washington D.C region has been remarkable. Together in the winter of 2011-12, Coats for Kids Foundation and Operation Warm reached more than 6,500 children in the National Capital Area.
Today, we continue operating as the Coats for Kids Foundation of Operation Warm and our long standing affiliations with the Combined Federal Campaign, the Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics, Local 2068 and the DC Metropolitan Police Department provides a solid and growing local base of support. In the long term, we will build on these affiliations reaching as many children as possible.
