Green Curriculum
As part of the College & University Program, Operation Warm, in conjunction with Associate Professor Francis Galgano, Jr., Chair of the Department of Geography and the Environment at Villanova University, has developed an elementary school based curriculum about water. It is designed to be used by student volunteers as part of Operation Warm’s new recycled coat program. Each coat is manufactured from recycled water and soda bottles.

These bottles could make a new coat!
The curriculum establishes the importance of water and introduces students to the basic concept of preserving natural resources, by using water as a prime example of a limited resource that must be protected and preserved. The curriculum provides another way for college and university volunteers to engage students in the schools they have elected to support, in the importance of sustainability of our environment. To see both the curriculum itself and the teaching notes and to learn more about the application of this program, review our to Student Activity Book.
This program was designed by the Department of Geography and Environment at Villanova University, in cooperation with Operation Warm, for use in elementary schools, as part of a program to introduce children to the concepts of sustainability and the stewardship of our environment. It is part of Operation Warm’s College and University Community Service Program, designed to support children in need near their campuses. The program includes raising funds, selecting a community organization to support, and putting new coats on children. Operation Warm is a national organization that provides new winter coats to children in need through strategic partnerships with donors and community organizations. In its ten years of existence, the organization has put 500,000 new coats on children.
