11-year-old Marathoner Sets World Record Running the World for Children

West Chester, PA – On Saturday, September 6th, Nikolas Toocheck became the youngest person in the world, (according to available records) to complete a marathon on all 7 continents with his final run in Asia. True to his word, 11-year-old Nikolas Toocheck ran all seven continents to raise money and awareness for Operation Warm in his campaign “Running the World for Children,” and he did it in less than two years. Operation Warm is a national non-profit founded by Nikolas’s grandfather in 1998 which has provided over 1.4 million brand new winter coats to impoverished children living in the United States.VIEW MORE

CHADDS FORD, PA – On Saturday, November 23rd Hannum’s Harley Davidson and the Harley Owner’s Group Association (H.O.G.) will rally bikers and antique/classic car enthusiasts for the 9th Annual Ride for Operation Warm. The event collects donations of brand new, tags-on coats for elementary school aged children in Delaware County whose families are struggling to meet basic needs. Riders will gather at Brandywine Harley-Davidson of Chadds Ford at 9:00am for an 11:00am Kickstand Up! ride to Riddle Hospital in Media. More than a decade ago, Dick Sanford founded Operation Warm. Now the Chester County organization is preparing to give away its one millionth coat. Last year alone, the nonprofit handed out more than 180,000 coats. The Kennett Paper talked to Sanford, who said Operation Warm plans to make some coats next year from recycled plastic bottles. The move to go green is gradual. In the meantime, Sanford is considering moving manufacturing from China to Haiti to reduce travel emissions and create jobs in Haiti.VIEW MORE

ADCK is gearing up for another big year. In the fall of 2010 they plan on providing over 20,000 coats to underprivileged children in need in a five county region of greater Philadelphia. Now in its third year, the program distributes coats in communities where members of the Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia operate their businesses.
