Our Sustainability Initiatives

The well being of our planet has become more important, as evidence indicates that we are living unsustainably. Efforts are being made all over the world to take actions to insure that in the long term our natural resources are being preserved for future generations. Operation Warm believes that we should all work harder to live and work within sustainable limits to conserve our natural resources for generations to come.

With that in mind, we have incorporated sustainability into our new college and university program. Our coats, manufactured for that program, use recycled fabric for the outer layer. In fact, each coat contains twelve recycled bottles. In conjunction with that, we have launched an educational program for students in elementary schools, which demonstrates the importance of water to the survival of our planet and introduces simple concepts that children can adopt to preserve that valuable resource. The curriculum is designed to be used by college students to present to elementary school students as part of their coat programs. To reinforce the concept of recycling materials, each child who receives a new coat is required to bring a recycled bottle in exchange for the coat.

Today, almost 35% of human use of water is unsustainable; we are reducing aquifers, reducing the flow of major rivers, and water is becoming more polluted and unsanitary. It is therefore important for our youngest children to understand the need to preserve the environment, especially our water supply. Our program introduces them to the broader concept of sustainability.
